North Carolina town of Elon is the scene of a fatal auto accident

Jul 3, 2013 Brown Moore Car Accidents

Police in the North Carolina town of Elon is still investigating an accident that took place on June 21. One driver died and the other was injured in the auto accident. Preliminary reports indicate that the deceased driver collided with the injured man’s vehicle.

The injured man was traveling west on University Drive when a car turning left slammed into him. The woman in the car that was making the turn suffered fatal injuries during the collision and died. The injured man was taken to a local hospital with injuries.

There has been no indication from the Elon Police Department as to what may have caused the accident or which driver was at fault. Factors such as speed, impairment, and distraction may be considered by police in their investigation of the auto accident. Even though the report indicates that the left turning vehicle collided with the car headed west, that does not mean that driver is automatically at fault. It may be necessary for police to conduct an accident reconstruction to ascertain what really happened.

Both the driver that survived and the family of the deceased driver may benefit from research into the rights and responsibilities each party faces under North Carolina law in connection with the auto accident. Whether the family will have the right to file a wrongful death claim or the other driver will have the right to file a personal injury claim hinges on who is deemed to have been responsible for the accident. The outcome of this accident will be very different depending on the official report.
